Permitting and Inspections
To apply for a permit, you must be a licensed contractor in the City of Bel Aire. Permits will be processed during business hours Monday - Thursday 8:00 - 5:30 and Friday 8:00 - 1:00. Permits will be processed within 48 hours. Permits will not be issued until all application information is received and permit fees are paid. Permits will be sent via email.
Inspections will be conducted on a first come basis. Requests for next day inspections received after 4:30 Monday - Thursday or 11:30 on Friday, may not be confirmed until the next business day. This may result in the inspection not occurring at the time requested. Inspection requests will NOT be accepted via email or by phone.
Contractor Licenses
All contractors providing services in the City of Bel Aire must be licensed. Permits will not be issued for work without a current license. Contractors are classified on the scope of work that they perform and the level of liability coverage they are required to have:
Class A or General Contractors are allowed to construct, remodel, repair, and demolish any structure.
Class B or Building Contractors are allowed to construct, remodel, repair and demolish all structures up to 3 stories in height. Includes non-structural remodeling and tenant finish, and repairs of all structures.
Class C or Residential Contractors are allowed to construct, remodel, repair, and demolish single family or duplex residences and buildings accessory.
Class D or Specialty Contractors are allowed to perform installation, maintenance, repair and handling of their area of expertise. For example, the City of Bel Aire licenses contractors for sprinkler installation, plumbing, mechanical, and roofing contractors among other specialties.

Effective August 1, 2025, all utility payments made with credit cards will be assessed a 3.7% fee ($2.50 minimum). Other payment options, such as cash, check, or automatic bank drafts (ACH), will not incur any additional fees.
